So if you feel like a break after the school holidays check out our BIG Break for Little People deal.
Beautiful Castlemaine Gardens
Our park is in a beautiful setting overlooking a trickling creek in to the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens next door and with a natural bushland reserve right behind us. Both offer lovely walks with paths for the little ones to ride a bike or cruise in the pram.
Within the Botanic Gardens is a fantastic interactive playground for the kids, a great place to have your coffee or make use of the undercover BBQ area while the kids play. There is also Lake Johanna an opportunity for the kids to feed the ducks. In fact our park was once part of these Botanic Gardens and we have the original heritage listed Caretakers Residence and a Glasshouse on site.
You can start your day with a beautiful stroll through the elm lined paths of the Gardens to unwind before settling in to the sounds of nature surrounding you. Grab a coffee or breakfast just across the road at the coffee roastery or meander your way through town via streets lined with cafes, boutiques and galleries.
You may choose to spend some quiet days with us at the park, where the children can enjoy our games room with lots of toys, puzzles and books. There are also pedal carts, dvds and sports equipment to borrow, an adventure quiz for the kids to do, our giant jumping pillow surrounded with sand and toys to play with, and free acess to the YMCA Pool right next door to the park which has both a 50m and a toddler pool.
When it comes to food, Castlemaine has wonderful restaurants, cafes, pubs and a Brewery, all within walking distance of the park, so there are plenty of easy choices.
There is so much to see and do in Castlemaine and surrounds, so plan your days, lots of days, to get out and about.
Check out the bushwalking trails, with picnic and BBQ facilities, lookouts, animal sightings, and swimming holes below:
Near the peak of Mount Alexander 10 minutes away you will find the huge, picturesque granite outcrops of Dog Rocks,.
Wander amongst the 118 year old Oak Forest in Harcourt followed up by a picnic under the oaks in this beautiful setting.
Take a picnic, enjoy a bushwalk, swim in the creek and don’t miss the giant (free) slippery dip at the Vaughan Springs Reserve. Don’t forget to take along an empty drink bottle to sample some tasty mineral water too.
Of course the Castlemaine Pool is right at the entrance to our park but if you fancy some freshwater swimming or kayaking head out to Expedition Pass Reservoir. One of the most beautiful swimming and fishing places you will ever find. Swim, fish or just lay back and relax.
Take the opportunity to go fishing, exploring, boating or even swimming at Cairn Curran Reservoir. There’s BBQ and Picnic facilities available here too.
Castlemaine is also steeped in goldfields history with the Forest Creek Gold Diggings, Castlemaine Art Gallery and Carmens Tunnel offering oppurtunities to learn about our fascinating past.
And lets face it, everybody loves a steam train! Take the kids for a trip on the Victorian Goldfields Steam Train that runs between Castlemaine and Maldon on Wednesdays, Sundays and public holidays. A relaxing 45 min journey to Maldon with a couple of hours to stroll the heritage listed streets, enjoy lunch, an icecream or the lolly shop before returning to Castlemaine.
