BIG4 Castlemaine Gardens Holiday Park

Your ultimate family holiday awaits...

BIG4 Castlemaine is a peaceful and private park overlooking a beautiful nature reserve and within walking distance of all that vibrant and eclectic Castlemaine has to offer. There's the famed Mill precinct just across the road, with gourmet food outlets (think artisan ham and sausages, chocolate, breads and wine), Shedshaker Brewery and the splendid Das Kaffeehaus offering Austrian-themed breakfasts and lunches and the all-important coffee made with beans blended and roasted on the premises. There's a vintage bazaar to explore as well as artisan workshops and galleries. To top it off, there's a boutique and a couple of great country pubs in the vicinity.

The centre of Castlemaine is reachable on foot, or is just a few minutes' drive from BIG4. Enjoy the town's history, architecture, multitude of coffee shops and fabulous restaurants, boutiques, and more. Visit the iconic Theatre Royal, which has hosted national and international artists and performers since 1855 and featured "moving pictures" since 1919 as one of the first "picture palaces" in Australia. Catch a current movie, or time your visit to enjoy an arthouse feature or a live music gig by local or touring musicians. Call in to the vast Restorers Barn to browse through architectural hardware or, just a few doors down, Stoneman's BookRoom, which has been delighting Central Victorian booklovers for decades, and which has a great selection of maps and local history books, as well as fiction for all ages. And be sure to stop in at the Market Building and Visitors' Centre for a wealth of information about all that Castlemaine and the Goldfields region has to offer.

For kids, Castlemaine and the surrounding region is natures playground. Get outdoors and explore historic goldmines, oak forests, watering holes and family friendly bike trails and walking tracks. There's also loads to enjoy here at the park, including the Giant Jumping Pillow and Games Room and hours of family fun around our pizza oven and BBQ, in the "Bush Hut” Camp Kitchen, or sitting around a campfire on a winter's evening. Right next door is Castlemaine's renowned and historic Botanical Gardens with lovely walking and cycling trails, picnic facilities, and an outstanding award-winning playground.

Castlemaine is the perfect base from which to explore the Central Victoria region and its extraordinary history, vibrant arts culture, renowned wineries (the big reds are especially noted) and spectacular landscapes. Towns like Heritage-listed Maldon, Clunes, Harcourt, Creswick, Kyneton, Malmsbury, Bendigo, Daylesford and Hepburn are all an easy drive away, and each is a wonderful day-trip for lovers of good food and wine, history, architecture, and art and crafts. And after each exploration, return to the tranquillity of BIG4 Castlemaine, possibly with plenty of gourmet treats for dinner.

For lovers of the great outdoors, there is almost too much to choose from. There's extensive bushland walking and cycling tracks around Castlemaine and further afield, including the renowned Goldfields Track.  There's also acclaimed mountain-biking trails for the more adventurous. Run, walk or cycle the 18 kilometre Castlemaine to Maldon trail, following the historic railroad track. Or take on a serious challenge on the 34 kilometres of cross-country mountain bike trails at La Larr Ba Gauwa Park near the village of Harcourt. Explore the 1,400 ha Mt Alexander Regional Park and enjoy bushwalks, picnics, lookouts with stunning views and perhaps spot some local wildlife.

Come and stay in a very special place and explore a region that truly has something for everyone to enjoy.
