The Nut at Stanley

The Nut is one of Tasmania's must-visit destinations. Standing proudly as the town's most iconic feature, The Nut is a volcanic plug that offers panoramic views of Stanley and its surrounding landscapes. Take the rather steep path to reach the summit or hop on the chairlift for a more relaxed ascent (closed during winter). Once at the top, be prepared to be awe-inspired by the breathtaking vistas of the coastline, rolling hills, and quaint township below.

To reach the summit of The Nut and enjoy the magnificent vistas, there are two options available. The walking track provides an athletic challenge, taking approximately 10-20 minutes to navigate. It involves a steep ascent of the full 152 metres to reach the top. Alternatively, you can choose the chairlift, which ascends 95 metres and covers a distance of 250 metres. The chairlift ride lasts about 5 minutes, offering plenty of opportunities for fantastic photos along the way. Please note that the chairlift is closed during winter (June-August). It operates most other days of the year, but it is important to check the weather conditions beforehand. A fee is charged for the chairlift experience.

Upon reaching the summit, you will be rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding area. Take your time to explore the plateau, as there is a moderate circuit track that takes about an hour to complete. Along the way, you can admire the stunning vistas of Stanley, the neighbouring farmland, Bass Strait, and the Rocky Cape National Park. There are plenty of lookout points, seating areas, and informative signs to enhance your experience.

The Nut offers a memorable adventure and an opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the area. Capture the stunning views, take in the serenity, and make the most of your time exploring this remarkable attraction.
