Ledge Point

Escape the hustle and bustle of city life at Ledge Point. This small cray-fishing township, part of the Coral Coast region, presents the perfect opportunity to unwind with its coastal location and relaxing vibe. And it’s a great base to explore nearby treasure.

Best outdoor attraction: Take the hour-long drive further north to Nambung National Park to witness the magnificent sight of the Pinnacles. This collection of limestone formations looks as though it belongs on another planet.

Best rainy-day attraction: Wait for the showers to pass with a meal and a drink at the welcoming Ledge Point Country Club.

Underrated attraction: Be sure to stop at Yanchep National Park on the way to or from Ledge Point. It combines koalas, caves, kangaroos, and more.

Budget tip: Hire a sand board and enjoy endless fun at the nearby Lancelin sand dunes.

BIG4 parks 2-2.5hr from Perth


Busselton

One of Western Australia’s favourite coastal holiday destinations, Busselton has a truckload of appeal. This inviting city is perched on the shores of Geographe Bay and has a series of top-notch attractions to keep you occupied on a weekend getaway from Perth.

Best outdoor attraction: Strolling along the 1.8km-long Busselton Jetty is a must. Don’t forget to visit the Underwater Observatory at the jetty’s far end.

Best rainy-day attraction: Shelter Brewing Co. serves up tasty beers in a spacious area at the foot of the famous jetty.

Underrated attraction: The ArtGeo Cultural Complex blends history with art and makes for a compelling visit.

Budget tip: Roll or stroll along the Busselton-Dunsborough Bike and Walk Path and enjoy a series of glittering coastal views.

Margaret River

Think Margaret River, think premium wine district. However, there is so much more to this alluring South West WA region than delicious reds and whites. Sparkling beaches, incredible caves, towering trees, and a thriving artistic thread highlight that Margaret River is the ideal short-break destination from Perth.

Best outdoor attraction: Perth has brilliant beaches and so too does the Margaret River region. Hamelin Bay, Yallingup, Injidup, Gnarabup, and Smiths Beach are among the highlights.

Best rainy-day attraction: You won’t be worrying about the weather when you’re marvelling at the spectacular caves underneath Leeuwin Naturaliste Ridge.

Underrated attraction: Be captivated by birds of prey at the Eagles Heritage wildlife centre. The big tip is to time visits with the twice daily flight displays.

Budget tip: Follow a section of Caves Road and admire the gorgeous scenery that blends the likes of forests, vineyards, and pastures.

BIG4 parks 3.5-4hr from Perth


Dongara

The sight of Moreton Bay fig trees greets you upon arrival at Dongara and well and truly reminds you that you’re on a short break. Spotted at a point where the river meets the ocean, Dongara combines with its twin township, Port Denison, to offer a memorable stay.

Best outdoor attraction: Tackle the Thungara Trails, a series of six variable walking paths that affords pleasant vistas.

Best rainy-day attraction: Transport yourself to the past at the fascinating Irwin District Museum. Or stop by the Illegal Tender Rum Co - distillery tours are available.

Underrated attraction: Archery and mini-golf are among the fun and games at Dongara Activity Park, and all for a reasonable fee.

Budget tip: Take a self-guided heritage walk or visit nearby sand dunes for epic adventures.
