McLaren Vale

McLaren Vale is where wine country meets the coast. Just over 30 minutes south of Adelaide on the Fleurieu Peninsula, the region brings together vineyards, cellar doors, long lunches, local produce, art and nearby beaches in a compact and easy-to-explore setting.

One of South Australia's best-known wine regions, McLaren Vale has a winemaking history dating back to the 1800s. Today, more than 80 cellar doors range from established estates to smaller producers, with classic varieties such as Shiraz alongside emerging Mediterranean styles. At the d'Arenberg Cube, wine tasting comes with bold architecture and immersive experiences.

There is plenty to do beyond the cellar door. Cycle the Shiraz Trail between vineyards, browse local markets and farm gates, or settle in for a long lunch built around seasonal produce and regional wines. When the afternoon calls for a change of scenery, the beaches of Port Willunga and Aldinga are just a short drive away.

McLaren Vale's coastal influence, Mediterranean climate and close connection between growers, winemakers and chefs give the region a character of its own. Come for the wine, but leave room in the itinerary for the food, coastline and experiences that make a day here stretch comfortably into the evening.
