Soldiers Memorial Gardens

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

The Soldiers Memorial Gardens are situated beside the glistening water of Encounter Bay. From this peaceful setting you can see Granite Island. The rows of iconic Norfolk Island Pines run along the foreshore at Flinders Parade. This is a popular meeting place for families. With so many facilities nearby you can easily spend the entire day here. The Gardens are set beside a large playground, picnic, and barbeque area. A walking and bike path run along the foreshore too.

The Soldiers Memorial Gardens commemorate those from the district who died in service or were killed in action during World War One. The first trees were planted in the gardens in 1917. The gardens also contain the Cenotaph, Cross of Sacrifice, Long Tan Cross, and various other memorials of conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

A beautiful spot for quiet reflection. A shady spot for all the family.
