Deception Bay Heritage Trail
Sports and Recreation Facilities
The Deception Bay Heritage Trail covers approximately four kilometres and can be completed in a 90-minute stroll. There are 16 unique sculptural markers, made from brushed and painted aluminium on structural aluminium pipe, identify each heritage location.
The markers' abstract forms were inspired by mangrove leaves in various states of growth and decay, mangrove root systems, and the foreshore rock formations that can be seen at the northern end of the Bay at low tide.
See sites including the Bathing Pool with photos from the 1800s of locals by the pool, learn of one potential reason behind the name Deception Bay, stand in the site of the first post office as well as the local general stores, learn about the First Nations people of the area including the traditional fishing methods and the 'middens' which showed the way of life by the shore.
