Oxley Recreation Reserve

National Parks and Reserves

Established in 1865, the Oxley Recreation Reserve is a unique 47-hectare mix of bushland and open spaces, backing onto the scenic King River. This historic reserve has been a community hub for over a century and continues to offer a wide range of recreational opportunities.

The upper terrace features sandy, well-drained soil and houses most facilities, making it usable year-round. Here you'll find a full-size cross-country course, horse yards, and a large well-grassed level area with scattered shadel, perfect for those travelling with horses. The reserve also includes an oval, tennis courts, and a fully fenced playground, ideal for families. Renovated clubrooms with toilets and showers provide comfort for day visitors and campers.

A small fee applies for camping and horse yards, with unpowered sites, a camp kitchen and a dump point available. With river access, fishing spots, and plenty of space to relax, it's a popular destination for nature lovers and adventurers.

In the early 1900s, the annual Oxley Picnic Day attracted thousands for a weekend of tennis, foot races and games. Today, the reserve remains a vibrant space for recreation, equestrian activities and community events. Whether you're looking to camp under the stars, explore the King River or enjoy a picnic in a tranquil setting, Oxley Recreation Reserve offers something for everyone.
