For those who’re interested in history, ask for a map and brochure of the Mathoura Heritage Trail, a self-guided tour that retraces the steps of local pioneers.

Outside the centre, you’ll see the striking sculpture of ‘The Drover and Horse’. It is one of 11 sculptures that are dotted along The Long Paddock Touring Route, telling the story of this legendary inland trail. Artist Corey Thomas has depicted a stockman struggling to pull his horse out of a swamp, which was inspired by the difficulties overland drovers faced bringing their mobs of cattle through the wetlands near Mathoura.
