Bombo Beach

Natural Attractions

Bombo Beach is a 1200 metre stretch of sand that links central Kiama with Kiama Downs. Bombo Beach is predominantly a surfing beach, with strong rips which can create hazardous conditions for swimmers. That said, these rips and sandbars help to produce the consistent surf for which this beach is well-known. Bombo Beach Headland, found at the northern end of the beach, gives your four-legged friends the chance to let loose and test their skills in the dog agility park.

Off-leash dogs are also welcome to enjoy the surf and sand in the centre of Bombo Beach between sunrise and sunset. While in the area, you should take the chance to walk around the headland – which features the remains of an abandoned quarry – to reach the rocky coastline on the other side. This dramatic landscape is known as The Boneyard; littered with hexagonal columns of basalt (and home to the famous Cathedral Rock), it's an incredible destination for photography lovers. Bombo Beach can be easily reached via public transport from Sydney and Wollongong, with a train station located just metres from the sand.
