Angourie Back Beach

Natural Attractions

It's a favourite amongst locals and visitors when the springtime Northerlies blow in. This south facing beach turns the cruel northerly to its advantage and is loved for it.

It is accessed either by walking from the Angourie car park, or driving down the Back Beach road from Wooloweyah.

The Back Beach car park has a toilet block and single outdoor shower, and a nearby lookout offers a glorious vista overlooking Angourie Point and the sweep of the Back Beach.

Though popular with swimmers in benign conditions, this beach is not patrolled. Rips and undertows are common, and the surf can be deceptively powerful.

Being in Yuraygir National Park, the usual prohibitions apply: no camping or overnighting in vehicles, and as much as your dog is special (who wouldn't hurt a fly), poochie will have to sit this one out. Good thing there are dog beaches just a few minutes away!

Please keep in mind: unpatrolled waters can be unpredictable. Choose patrolled beaches for a safer experience and swim only between the flags. Avoid jumping into unknown water depths or areas with unseen hazards. Be aware of currents, rocks, and sudden drops, and always make sure you're swimming in safe areas to protect yourself and your loved ones!
