Hoppy days! Australia’s bustling beer festivals: early 2018

Raise your glass (or cup) to a summer beer festival.

Beer festival.

For lovers of the amber liquid, are there two sweeter words in the English language?

And as luck would have it, Australia has several prized beer-inspired events early in the new year.

Time your next break to coincide with one of these fantastic festivals…

A trio of BeerFest events - to be held in Launceston, Hobart, and Melbourne - should ensure the Australian summer is filled with plenty of 'hoppiness'.

January 2018

Esk BeerFest, Launceston, TAS (13 January)

Back for another year but with a new home at Royal Park, Esk BeerFest is set to showcase a grand gathering of craft breweries and cideries from across Tasmania and the mainland. But it’s not all about sampling top-shelf liquid – there are masterclasses, brewing demonstrations, live music, and comedy, all among a vibrant atmosphere. Ahh, yes.

Stay at BIG4 Launceston Holiday Park.

Ballarat Beer Festival, Ballarat, VIC (20 January)

It’s a gold rush of a different kind in Ballarat this January. Here is another established beer festival with a new location in 2018: in this case, the shores of magnificent Lake Wendouree. Expect a mammoth 150-plus different brews to be on the menu (you don’t have to try them all), a mountain of food options, and live music. In addition, this lakeside setting will play host to beer education classes, blind tastings, trivia, and more.

Stay at BIG4 Ballarat Goldfields Holiday Park or BIG4 Ballarat Windmill Holiday Park or elsewhere within the Goldfields region.

In won't be at this venue in 2018, but the Ballarat Beer Festival is sure to once again attract a big crowd.

February 2018

Ales on the Ovens, Wangaratta, VIC (3 February)

Cook up a storm at the Ales on the Ovens craft beer extravaganza. Apex Park is the ideal setting for this family-friendly gig where the best of Victoria’s brews take centre stage, jostling for attention alongside tasty food and live entertainment. For kids, there are plenty of games, activities, and other fun, so mark this down in the diary as a must-attend.

Stay at BIG4 Wangaratta North Cedars Holiday Park.

Hobart BeerFest, Hobart, TAS (17 February)

Salamanca Wharf is the perfect spot for a lively event that is the younger sibling of the Esk BeerFest. Expect the good times to flow as freely as the top-shelf brews, particularly with the impressive line-up of musical talent on offer.

Stay at BIG4 Hobart Airport Tourist Park.

Great Australian Beer Festival, Geelong, VIC (17 February)

Some of the biggest names in the craft beer world, as well as cideries, are on the bill for this feature festival. There’s musical entertainment galore, food trucks aplenty, interactive seminars, various children’s activities, and fun events that include a keg-rolling comp. It's held at Geelong Racecourse, so get ready to back a winner.

March 2018

South West Craft Beer Festival, Margaret River, WA (3 March)

The Margaret River might be well-known for its premium wine but in early March beer steals the spotlight when this fabulous festival comes to town. Local breweries are a key focus here – more than 20 of them are on the bill – and the musical entertainment has a similarly regional flavour. And wine isn’t too far away: the grape stuff will also be available, and, what's more, the setting for this event is 3 Oceans Winery.

Stay at BIG4 Taunton Farm Margaret River or in Busselton.

Melbourne BeerFest, Melbourne, VIC (3 March)

Rounding out the trio of BeerFest events is this Melbourne offering. Beautiful Catani Gardens in St Kilda will make for the perfect host for a day filled with some of the best brews in the country, as well as beer education sessions, live brew demonstrations, and much more.

Stay at Melbourne BIG4 Holiday Park or BIG4 Dandenong Tourist Park.

With its beachside positioning, St Kilda's Catani Gardens is a superb setting for a summer beer festival.

Brewsvegas, Brisbane, QLD (10-18 March)

It’s Brewsvegas baby! Now in its fifth year, Brewsvegas celebrates the QLD capital’s ever-growing craft beer scene with a host of exciting events held across multiple venues. Details for 2018 were still to be finalised at time of print, but if previous editions are anything to go by, you can expect a week-plus of hop-filled happiness.

Stay at BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park or NRMA Treasure Island Holiday Resort.
