Camping beside the Murray River is a quintessential Australian experience, as family of four Meg, Matt, Daisy, and Jasper will attest. They hit the road in their vintage Kombi to discover the mighty Murray region. Check out their highlights below.
The first stop saw the travel-loving family arrive at NRMA Yarrawonga Mulwala Holiday Park, enjoying early morning sunrise adventures around Lake Mulwala.
With the pool on one side of their cabin and the Jumping Pillow on the other, the kids were in their element. And just a hop, skip, and jump across the road they found an adventure playground, complete with a flying fox, slide, rope climbing, and more.
Next stop, BIG4 Riverside Swan Hill. The perfect riverfront location.
“If you got any closer to the Murray River, you’d fall in!”
On arrival, Daisy and Jasper were quick to calculate the fastest route from their cabin to the pool and made new friends at the pump track and playground.
Right next door to the park, you can step back in time with a visit to the Pioneer Settlement, allowing you to retrace a fascinating slice of Australian history.
A trip to the Murray wouldn’t be complete without seeing the sights from the river on a paddle steamer. It’s an authentic experience, with boats dating to the 1800s.
And when tummies are rumbling, morning tea scones and a thick shake at the park café are a must. Daisy even rated it as the best chocolate thick shake she’d ever had!
But first, coffee. And the family agreed that they’d found the best coffee and juice in Mildura at quirky café, Bobby + Me, overlooking the Murray.
With BIG4 Mildura Getaway Holiday Park as a base, the kids loved the splash park and playground and the ‘bigger kids’ enjoyed the short stroll to town and the comfy cabins.
Surrounded by towering red gums, it was the perfect place for Meg and Matt to kick back and relax in the sunshine, while the kids got stuck into water activities on the river.
In the evening, the sky put on a show with a spectacular sunset, a feast for the eyes.
“There’s something special about Murray River sunsets.”
Daisy and Jasper had the best time exploring the mighty Murray.
“They are such great mates and love nothing more than hitting the open road and exploring together in the Kombi. Us big kids don’t mind tagging along, too!”
