Indian Ocean Drive provides beautiful scenery including ocean views, lookouts and many Australian native plants along the way. Head inland from the coast to search for the wildflowers during the season, which is between September and November.
From Ledge Point, you can head inland along KW Road and Orange Springs Road and during the wildflower season in September and October, an array of banksias and kangaroo paws can be seen along the road. The wildlife, including kangaroos and emus are generally not far from the road verge either if you're looking to spot a few.
If you're keen to get out exploring wildflowers in the area, from Orange Springs Road you can head north on the Brand Highway towards Dandaragan and more inland towards Moora during spring where the Canola Fields are on display.
Heading south on the Brand Highway by turning right from Orange Springs Road towards Gingin brings you to the Moore River National Park. In December, this area is well known for the stunning views of Christmas trees and morrison, as well as many other wildflowers the area is well known for. These unique shrubs flower in a brilliant golden bloom and provides visitors with a spectacular show. If you're travelling outside spring or the wildflower season, slender and firewood banksias can be found all year round so this area is well worth a trip at any time.
We've heard a rumour that the elusive black kangaroo paw can be found in the areas surrounding Ledge Point if you're up for the challenge.
