Marysville

Nestled in the foothills of Melbourne's closest ski fields, Marysville is an ideal spot to slow down and appreciate the wonders of nature, particularly in the wake of the devastating 2009 Black Saturday bushfires.

Established in 1863 as a stopover for diggers travelling to the Goldfields, Marysville evolved into a popular honeymoon and resort destination. The town thrived until early 2009 when the Black Saturday bushfires wiped out almost the entire town. Due to a massive relief effort and the tireless work of the locals, many businesses reopened and friendly locals are happy to chat about the rebuilding process.

The remarkable regeneration of the bushland around Marysville is evident as you venture into the surrounding bushland to take advantage of a host of outdoor activities. Just a short drive away, Lake Mountain offers skiing, tobogganing and all kinds of snow activities. Swap snow tracks for walking trails carpeted with wildflowers in spring and summer, or visit the nearby waterfalls.

Warmer weather around Marysville opens up opportunities for mountain biking, trout fishing and golf. Cyclists who enjoy a challenge can take on the Lake Mountain leg of the 7 Peaks Ascent Challenge or the Marysville Lake Mountain Challenge in March.

Marysville is 96 kilometres east of Melbourne. The two hour drive along the Maroondah Highway winds through Black Spur to the turn off at Narbethong.
