7 PEAKS Ride

Grab your 7 peaks passport and conquer the 7 peaks between October and March each year.

AUDAX Alpine Classic

The Audax Alpine Classic® has been run successfully since 1986, when half a dozen keen Audax cyclists rode from Bright to Falls Creek and back. After a little refreshment they felt the need for more speed, and set off to ride the additional 70km up Mt Buffalo and back. This 200 km route became the famed Audax Alpine Classic®. As the ride became more popular routes of different distances were gradually introduced to allow more cyclists to complete their own Alpine Challenge, and share their achievement with like-minded athletes. The Audax Alpine Classic® is now catering to around 2000 riders, over 8 courses ranging from moderate to seriously challenging, all fabulously supported by a great team of volunteers. As this is not a race, there are no road closures.

When you complete your ride, a celebration of personal achievement with family and friends is warranted. So now, in addition to the range of rides which support “the Classic”, a free food and music festival is available for early finishers and non-cyclists at the start/finish in Howitt Park just 200m from BIG4 Bright Holiday Park. The Bonjour Bright Festival has been French themed to celebrate the association of the Audax Alpine Classic® with Audax International, based in France.

3 Peaks Challenge

Each March Labour Day long weekend you have 13 hours to defy your limits and prove yourself.

In 2010, Peaks Challenge Falls Creek was founded on adversity, with the first edition a fierce, cold and brutal ride through Victoria’s High Country. And from that event, grew a mystique that spawned a series.

Since then, thousands of brave cyclists have returned, pushing themselves beyond the edge of their abilities in one of the world’s toughest rides.

While many have risen to the challenge, many have failed, succumbing to the unforgiving terrain and gruelling mental battle that is unique to Peaks Challenge events.

There’s no disputing the stunning and alien-like beauty of the region and its summits. But the shifting weather conditions, vastness and isolation of Victoria’s High Country will challenge even the most hardened mountain goats.

You’ll tackle the ascents of Tawonga Gap, Mount Hotham and finally, the beast that is the back of Falls. The back of falls will hit you like a tonne of bricks. With 200km in your legs, you’ll quickly learn why the first pinch is called WTF corner. It’s a steep and relentless climb with little reprieve.

For many, Peaks Challenge Falls Creek will be the toughest day they spend on a bike. Seasoned riders know that no matter how many times you conquer the climbs; it never gets easier — you just go faster.

Last year, 2,000 riders faced the peaks but only those who crossed the finish line within the 13-hour deadline, earn the right to proudly call themselves Peaks Challenge finishers.

The mountains of Victoria’s Alpine area are beckoning. One of the greatest riding experiences of your life, is within reach.

This year, 88% of riders finished. Have you got what it takes?

Cafes in the area are cycle friendly with bike racks aplenty.

Next time you head to BIG4 Bright Holiday Park plan some time out on the bike.
