This itinerary offers a range of outdoor attractions to explore as well as a few indoor options to keep everyone happy.
DAY 1 - CHOOSE LAND OR WATER!
ON LAND
One of the best ways to discover the Swan Hill region is by two wheels or on foot. If you’re bringing your bicycle, be sure to explore the Lakeside Trail around Lake Boga as well as the Riverfront Trail, a scenic route that allows you to fully explore the region’s pioneer history, flora and fauna. Both trails are also perfect for walking, but if a lingering hike is more your thing then check out the Murray Downs Track, an 8km trek that takes you across the Murray River Bridge or the 13km-long Rivergum Trail in the forests of Nyah-Vinifera Park where you can also engage in some bird watching. ON WATER
With the Murray River and Lake Boga at your fingertips, there is no better way to connect with our rivers and lakes than by canoe or kayak. Enjoy the serenity and wildlife this activity has to offer. Explore the areas of our beautiful region that are not accessible by foot or vehicle. The Murray River offers some of the best canoeing and kayaking experiences in the region. Don’t forget to wear something warm in case you get a little bit wet! If you feel like taking it slow, simply take the family on a gentle hour-long cruise down the Murray River on board the PS Pyap. This popular cruise leaves from the Pioneer Settlement Wharf daily at 2:30pm, taking you past the historic Murray Downs Homestead.

PIONEER SETTLEMENT
Known as one of Australia’s premier outdoor museum, the Pioneer Settlement offers a memorable history lesson for visitors. Beautifully restored nineteenth century businesses and shops line this popular attraction, providing an interactive experience for the whole family. Ride a horse-drawn carriage, observe some agricultural machinery and discover the steam workshop.
Don’t forget to hop on-board the PS Pyap, the beloved riverboat that departs daily from the Pioneer Settlement Wharf at 2:30pm.

SWAN HILL REGIONAL ART GALLERY
Recognised as having one of Australia’s most comprehensive collections of native art, the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery is well worth a visit. The gallery also features Australian prints and drawings from the 1970s onwards and local art. LAKE BOGA FLYING BOAT MUSEUM
Love history or aviation? Be sure to visit this unique museum, which commemorates the service men and women who served at No. 1 Flying Boat Repair Depot in Lake Boga. You will be transported back to the 1940s where Catalina flying boats were a common sight on Lake Boga. Here, you can look inside a rebuilt A24-30 Catalina or go underground into the secret Communication Bunker where you can discover the importance of Swan Hill as a vital base during World War II.
OLSEN PHEASANT FARM
is the only commercial game bird farm in Australia open to visitors. Olson Game Birds is an attraction that is unique to the Swan Hill region. Fondly known as Swan Hill Pheasant Farm or Olson Pheasant Farm, this family-operated business has been in operation for almost 50 years. The farm produces a range of game birds, namely pheasants, guinea fowl and partridges for restaurants around the country.
