Join a tour of the Old Castlemaine Gaol. Find out about the compelling history and what life was like for the inmates or take yourself on a self-guided tour. There are even ghost tours if you're that way inclined. Plus, the beautiful views of Castlemaine and surrounds are second to none.
Stroll through the beautiful Castlemaine Botanical Gardens, beautiful at any time of year. The kids can feed the ducks on Lake Johanna and the incredible award winning playground will have them entertained for hours.
Grab dinner at one of Castlemaine's plethora of pubs or restaurants. There's always something on the menu to suit all members of the family or grab take away pizza or fish and chips for dinner and head back to BIG4 Castlemaine Gardens to set your camp fire.
Have a sleep-in on Sunday morning and then treat the family to a fun day on the Victorian Goldfields Railway steam train. Step back in time and experience how people travelled in the 'olden days', listen to the whistle blow as the engine huffs and puffs up the hills and you watch the world go by. The train travels from Castlemaine to Maldon, where you can spent the day exploring the historic township and return to Castlemaine a few hours later.
Take an early morning stroll through the Castlemaine Botanic Gardens, beautiful in winter and perfect for a morning walk at any time of year.
Head over to The Mill precinct and grab breakfast at Das Kaffeehaus where you can taste locally produced coffee and indulge in a delicious breakfast in an Austrian-styled setting that has to be seen to be believed.
Spend a few hours wandering through The Mill precinct. A vibrant space bursting with food producers, artisans, winemakers, a brewery and the unmissable Castlemaine Vintage Bazaar.
Take in an afternoon movie at Castlemaine's historic Theatre Royal, the oldest continually operating theatre on the Australian mainland.
Grab dinner and a well deserved beverage at one of Castlemaine's abundance of restaurants or pubs or catch a music performance at one of the many live music venues, including the Shedshaker Brewery Taproom, Theatre Royal or The Bridge Hotel.
Return to BIG4 Castlemaine gardens to snuggle up in front of your cosy campfire.
Have a well deserved sleep-in on Sunday then head out to one of the many local wineries offering long, slow lunches, wine tastings and live music. The perfect way to while away a winter afternoon.
