Explore Lakes Entrance

There are plenty of family-friendly activities to enjoy in and around Lakes Entrance. Bring your family and get out and about to explore the wonderful coastal area of East Gippsland.

On the water

You can’t miss our pristine waterways which are great for swimming, fishing, crabbing, kayaking, canoeing, boating and sailing. The Lakes Entrance foreshore and footbridge to Ninety Mile Beach is just a short stroll from BIG4 Whiters and when you’ve had your fill of sun and sand, you can also refresh yourself with a dip in one of our pools back at the village.

You might like to admire the iconic wooden sculptures along the foreshore, created over two decades ago by Gippsland chainsaw artist John Brady. Crafted from old pines which were originally planted as an avenue of honour to respect war veterans. Not too far away you will find the fascinating Griffiths Seashell Museum, where you can browse the gift shop, or pay the small fee to wonder at all the amazing shells and marine life artifacts.

Explore the caves

Further afield, you will really feel like true explorers when you visit Buchan Caves. A 40 minute drive north brings you to these amazing underground wonders, where you can take daily guided tours of Fairy Cave, Royal Cave, or even both for a reasonable fee.

Visit koalas

Another fabulous day-trip is Raymond Island in nearby Paynesville, with an easy koala walking trail where you will probably see at least a dozen koalas! Park the car and get a free short ferry ride (for pedestrians) over to Raymond Island (running every 20 minutes). Take your own food and drink for a picnic and enjoy the peaceful surrounds.
