Start with the capital, Hobart, with its hit-you-in-the-face historical charm, rich cultural vein, delicious produce, and crisp, clean air that you just don’t get on the mainland.
Venture to Port Arthur for an evocative visit to the past, or travel all over the state to experience pockets of Tasmania where time appears to have stood still.
Yet history is just a small piece of the Tassie puzzle. The state boasts incredible landscapes from cloud-touching mountains to breathtakingly rugged coastline, cool caves, and great lakes. And don’t forget those snap-worthy lichen-covered rocks sprinkled across the East Coast; Mother Nature appears to have taken to them with one almighty paintbrush.
Better yet, inviting cellar doors can be found throughout, led by those clustered around Launceston in the Tamar Valley.
BIG4 parks can be spotted throughout Tasmania too, as can World Heritage wonders. It’s ironic really, because the planet should pay it more attention. Just don’t tell the locals that.
