Great Barrier Reef
Many of the most spectacular tours of the Great Barrier Reef depart from Port Douglas. Port Douglas is the closest mainland town to the Great Barrier Reef and we are at the top of the Great Barrier Reef. The Agincourt Reef was voted as one of the Best Reef's in the world for the condition of the corals and the fish that inhabit the Reef. Port Douglas Markets
Open every Sunday between 8am and 1:30pm, the markets offer a huge range of local arts and crafts. Found at Anzac Park, Port Douglas, these colourful seaside markets are a reflection of the local workers like artists, farmers, tradesmen and craftsmen. A great place to find a bargain or the perfect holiday memento.
Flagstaff Hill Lookout
From this vantage point you can get the best views of Port Douglas and the striking Four Mile Beach. It is an easy walk to the top and with gentle sea breezes the walk is quite relaxing.
Grab a bite to eat, relax with a few drinks or enjoy a romantic dinner while looking over Dickson's Inlet and the Mossman Ranges at one of the many varied eating establishments around the Marina. A large boardwalk runs along the water and provides access to shops, cafes and the many Tour Operators that run out of Port Douglas to the Great Barrier Reef.
There are several World Class Golf Courses at Port Douglas. The Mirage Country Club at the Sheraton Mirage Resort, the Sea Temple Golf & Country Club, and The Links Golf Course at Mantra Links Resort Port Douglas are all beautifully designed and maintained. The Mossman Golf Course also is a fabulous Country Golf Course and only 20 minutes away, they have Mens/Womens and Mixed Competitions through the week. Rainforest Wildlife Habitat
Visitors to this Port Douglas Environmental Wildlife Park are given the opportunity to experience 4 different environments. In the Rainforest, Woodlands, Grasslands and Wetlands areas you have the chance to see over 180 species of animal and insect. At the Sanctuary they also have Breakfast with the Birds and Lunch with the Lorikeets where you can enjoy a Sumptuous Tropical Buffett Breakfast or Lunch while enjoying the wonderful sounds and seeing the vibrant colours of the local bird life.
Mossman Gorge is an absolute must see with its sensational 2.8km boardwalk through the rainforest. The Gorge is 4km from Mossman, which is 20kms from Port Douglas. The main walk is a through dense rainforest with pleasant views of the river there are swimming holes along the Mossman River where you can safely swim. In the Wet Season you must take care if the river is flowing too fast. The Mossman Gorge is part of the spectacular Daintree Rainforest.
Four Mile Beach
A long sandy beach stretching from Island Point in one long arc. There is patrolled swimming at the north end of the beach with nets to protect swimmers from the stingers through the months of October to May.
Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation
The Daintree National Park and Cape Tribulation is to the north of Port Douglas. It is an area of Spectacular Scenery with Tropical Rainforest and Ocean. The Daintree Cape Tribulation coast is where the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest meet, the ONLY place on earth where Two World Heritage areas exist side by side. Take your time to enjoy the beautiful drive up to this area along with the many attractions along the way.
The Historic "Bump Track"
The Bump Track is an aptly named Trail used by Pioneers in the 1800's to travel from the Coast near Port Douglas up to Gold and Tin Fields on the Tablelands. It follows the route of an Aboriginal walking track adapted for use by Horse Coaches and Bullock Drays. In early pioneering days, the Bump Track was a busy thoroughfare. Now the track is much quieter and has become popular among Hikers and Mountain Bikers, the first part is quite steep but the Panoramic Views are rewarding.
