BIG4 Cairns Crystal Cascades Holiday Park

Cairns by Coffee

Do you consider yourself a coffee connoisseur? Do you enjoy trying out new coffee tastes? Are you always searching for that perfect cup of coffee? Then search no further! With our comprehensive list, you'll be able to satisfy those tastebuds!

Botanical Setting

If you're visiting the Flecker Botanic Gardens in Edge Hill, there are two cafes to choose from. The Botanic Gardens Restaurant & Cafe is at one end of the gardens in Collins Avenue. It's great for European breakfasts, lunches and signature sweet waffles in an outdoor setting. Whilst further up the Avenue close to the Visitor Centre there's the Wild Bean Cafe with vegetarian and gluten free options.

If you would like to combine the purchase of plants with coffee, there's Vines Cafe at Limberlost Garden Centre in Freshwater. This is a charming cafe set in the grounds of the garden centre, with both outdoor and indoor settings. The cafe boasts artisan cakes and slices, breakfasts and lunches with freshly grown herbs from the Cafe Garden.

By the Water

Wharf One Cafe at Trinity Wharf is a great spot (for coffee) on the waterfront where you can watch the boats go by, and it's 'kid friendly' - there's the Fig Tree Play Ground close by. They have an all day breakfast menu, and support local artisan suppliers.

Also close to the waterfront is Muddy's Cafe, further along the Esplanade. Next to Muddy's is the free water playground - great for the younger kids. Besides coffee, Muddy's serves breakfast, burgers and fish & chips.

The perfect location to listen to the waves and enjoy coffee at the beach (plus breakfast or lunch) is Strait on the Beach, at Holloways Beach. They also have live entertainment from time to time.

Palm Cove is another superb spot for wave watching! Try Coffee Haven at the far end of Williams Esplanade. Open from 7am daily for breakfast and lunch.

Gluten Free options

There are a number of cafes in Cairns that include gluten free options on their menus. Of those, you might like to try Ozmosis Cafe Kitchen located in Collins Avenue in Edge Hill. It's only a stone's throw from the Botanical Gardens, and an ideal place for coffee and refreshments after a walk through the gardens!

Also, a little out of town on Anderson Street, Manunda is Cafe Matteo. They have an all-day delicious breakfast menu with daily specials, and fresh lunch options, including gluten free and vegan. Open from 6am Monday - Saturday.

Another favourite, Blackbird Espresso, is a lovely little cafe tucked away in Oceana Walk Arcade in Grafton Street. If you're a 'coffee head', and want good coffee, this is the place for you! They also serve a variety of gluten free and vegan products.

Also in Grafton Street is Caffiend serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, using locally available and often seasonal produce, together with great coffee!

Out of Town

If you're venturing out of town for the day, specifically towards the Atherton Tablelands, don't forget to visit the coffee plantations on the way!

First up is Jacques Coffee Plantation, just off the Kennedy Highway before you reach Mareeba. Apart from delicious coffee, they also serve lunch from 11am - 3pm daily. In addition, there are coffee tours and adventure activities including flights in a Gyrocopter or Microlight Aircraft (over the plantation), or guided tours on an Off-road Segway.

Next up is Coffee Works in Mareeba. Plenty to choose from - with over 40 fresh roasted beans and blends from local plantations and around the world, created onsite! Enjoy coffee, lunch and dessert. There's also a Chocolaterie with over 50 flavours, an amazing gift shop and CoffeeWorld with an unlimited all-day tasting of coffee, tea, liqueur and chocolate! For something a little closer, Coffee Works also has a great little store in Spence Street, Cairns where you can still grab a delicious cup of Black Mountain coffee, taste chocolate before you buy, and purchase that extra special gift for yourself or a loved one!

Located apx. 1 1/4 hours from Cairns and Port Douglas, the Skybury Tropical Plantation is another great spot in which to indulge in the local coffee, light lunches, cakes, scones and papaya, with magnificent views over the 395 acre plantation. Open Mon - Fri 9am to 4pm.
