The Atherton Tablelands is a fertile plain forming part of the Great Dividing Range with its rich soil attributed to volcanic origins. Lush rolling hills, vast green fields, abundant wildlife, rugged bushland, tropical waterfalls, crater lakes, an abundance of history and gourmet food all add up to make the Tablelands an incredible place to visit. For history buffs, the Tablelands boasts some incredible historical points of interest from wartime to Chinese settlement and Australia's early pioneer days. Markets proudly displaying superb and interesting local produce and homemade craft are also worth a visit. If you love nature, bird-watching, bush-walking and mountain bike riding you will not be disappointed with the vast array of birdlife and trails here for you to enjoy and explore. Many of the trail systems are located within very close proximity to our park. Many guests comment that they were not aware that there is so much to see and do on the Tablelands. Don't be disappointed and give yourself plenty of time to explore all that this wonderful region has to offer. Please ask at reception for our seven-day itinerary covering the region.

Within walking distance of BIG4 Atherton is the wonderful Atherton Chinatown, Hou Wang Temple. Gold attracted Chinese settlers to North QLD in the late 1800s. When the gold ran out, may turned to timber and market gardening. The National Trust of QLD acquired the Temple in 1979. It is the only timber and iron temple remaining in Australia. See the caretaker's home and listen to the voices of the past.
The Crystal Caves and Fascinating Facets
A must for all the family situated on the Main Street of Atherton. Discover some of the world's most spectacular natural crystals and real fossils. In the Underground Adventure Museum you will be given a miners helmet and a catalogue to identify the crystals and fossils and are free to wander at your leisure. Fascinating Facets is the combination of a gallery, jewellery store and rock shop. Coloured stones including Sapphire, Ruby & Amethyst are available in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Gallo Dairyland is a fully functional dairy farm now producing a range of gourmet dairy products and hand crafted chocolates. Gallo's is open daily with informative displays and observation decks into the cheese factory and in the surrounds of a working farm. Gallo Dairyland also has its own cafe and makes for an enjoyable outing for all the family. Come and enjoy their delicious cheese & chocolate. Great Northern Walking Trails
The Atherton Tablelands has many attractions including the many beautiful waterfalls & lakes. For the nature lovers, bushwalks are available .. please ask at Reception for your copy of the "Great Northern Walking Trails". The Tableland region is also known for its coffee plantations and distillery's. Please ask at Reception as we have various discount vouchers available for the various plantations Distillery's such as Mt. Uncle Distillery and Golden Drop Mango.

Our Park is a great place to call home while you explore the Tablelands. Close-up Birding Adventures
David "Chook" Crawford is locally born & bred with an incredible knowledge of the birdlife that may be found in this region. He has many tours .. from day trips to an 11 day trip to Cape York. All tours operate with a minimum of 2 people and travel is in a comfortable, air conditioned 4WD vehicle. David is very happy to pick up guests staying at BIG4 Atherton who wish to participate in one of his tours.
Alan's Wildlife Tours
Nocturnal tours available .. animals to be seen include Lumholtz's Tree-kangaroo, Coppery Brushtail Possums and Green Ringtail Possums. Sometimes seen are Owls, Bats, Geckoes & Frogs. Planets of interest, stars and geology are also discussed. Natural History & Bird Watching Tours are also available. Visit ancient rainforests with huge trees, hear the stories of the volcanic landscape pand the life it supports.
World Class Mountain Bike Trails
Now up to Trail 17, come and ride the most amazing Mountain Bike Trails in the region and in Australia. Built to international standard by World Trail, and having already hosted some major international mountain bike races, these trails are a must and are located within riding distance of our Park. The trails have been built to varying degrees of difficulty to suit all riders and family members. You can wash off your bike in our purpose built MTB wash down and service bay after your ride!

The Atherton Markets are held at Platypus Park, just 500m from our Park on the 1st Saturday of each month. Enjoy a stroll to the markets for your fresh fruit and vegetables.

The Yungaburra Markets are held on the 4th Saturday of every month. They are the larger of the markets in the area and are very popular. Choose from a range of fresh produce, clothing and arts & crafts. Yungaburra is a 15 minute drive from our Park.
