Winter is a great time to take a holiday at BIG4 Deniliquin. Aside from the obligatory marshmallow-toasting in the designated fire pits along our river, the town of Deniliquin has some superb cultural attractions to see.
Deniliquin's culture and heritage can be traced back to when the town sprung up on the Edward River where drovers forded and swam their stock along a travelling stock route called The Long Paddock. There is now an exciting arts scene including public art, museums, galleries, travelling exhibitions and live performances.
The best place to start your arts and cultural journey at is the Peppin Heritage Centre in town along George Street. Throughout the year the centre has a variety of very interesting travelling and local exhibitions. There's also a heritage museum, an old classroom, and the original Deniliquin Gaol.
Right next door is the famous Mosaic Ute where volunteers painstakingly covered a ute with tiny mosaic tiles - a spectacular sight to see.
Nearby in Charlotte Street, is the iconic Deni Ute which everyone needs to stand underneath at least once in their life!
You can also take a a walk or ride your bike and follow the Deniliquin Town Walk going past historic buildings and sites around town.
The Lawson Syphon is a remarkable engineering structure that diverts the canal under the river and delivers water to the agricultural region west of the area.
The Deniliquin & District Historical Society Museum at 3 Macauley Street, has an extensive display and historical record of Deniliquin and its people and is housed in a glorious old house that was once the original home of the Deniliquin Police Inspector.
