Self-Guided Car Door Tours
These five self-drive tours (Green, Blue, Yellow, Red or Orange) are designed to see the major attractions around the area. Each tour is approximately 20min in driving time, however, you can spend a few hours on each exploring the attractions. Choose one or do all five!
These car door tours have arguably become one of the most popular attractions for tourists visiting Lighting Ridge and are not to be missed! There’s five self-drive tours to choose from and each tour is colour coded (green, blue, yellow, red and orange) from wrecked vehicles, erected roadside and painted with numbers corresponding to sights on a pamphlet. You can pick up the pamphlet locally at the Opal Holiday Park or at the Lightning Ridge and Walgett Visitor information Centres.

These tours are completely self paced, though if you’re going to do them all, it’s suggested you give yourself around two full days. The orange trip is the longest of the five. For this one, allow about a day. It takes you in to explore the opal fields with a few pub stops along the way.
