Mudgee region’s temperate climate allows for the slow ripening of grapes, offering the perfect opportunity to sample wines with personality and character while relaxing in a sophisticated yet peaceful country setting.

The region produces great chardonnay and has a reputation for crafting cabernet sauvignon and shiraz of great character. Recent years have also seen success with sangiovese, barbera and zinfandel. Stop by the cellar doors and sample varieties of Mudgee's wineries.

Along with award-winning wineries and restaurants, the Mudgee region is home to the Flavours of Mudgee Street Festival. Through this month-long celebration, starting in September, you will find a host of events across the region's cellar-doors, including live music, delectable lunches, exquisite dinners and public wine tasting.

Several of the regions best wineries also run top restaurants including Cucina di Lusso, Lowe Wines, Moothi Estate Vineyards and Robert Oatley Vineyards. Local produce such as free range lamb, beef, and pork, cheese, olive oil, hazelnut and honey feature on local menus across the region, capturing the alluring essence of this beautiful area.

Mudgee’s wine bars also have a great selection of craft beers and ciders and offer sophisticated bar food and more extensive dining options. Visit Roths Wine Bar for a good selection of local wines and local delicacies. The Wineglass Restaurant offers a regularly-changing menu focused on fresh local produce.

Mudgee also enjoys a sophisticated cafe culture, with enticing coffee aromas that will draw you in. The Butcher Shop Cafe offers great coffee and breakfasts, while Market Street Cafe and Outside the Square Cafe are popular choices for casual dining.
