The Beautiful Beaches & Waterways Of Yamba
Yamba is a great town for anybody who loves the water.
For some people it's all about the beaches. Yamba is home to a number of beaches, and each one offers something slightly different.
For the family just keen for a swim you have Main Beach which is the local patrolled beach during the warmer months of the year.
You also have Whiting Beach which is actually just inside the breakwall meaning there are no waves and it's ideal as a swimming beach for toddlers and young children.
For the surfers there are a number of options in both Yamba and up the road at the world renowned surf break of Angourie.
For the anglers there are also great options offshore, at the local beaches and just inside the break wall.
Then you have the Clarence River.
This offers up a whole new set of water experiences that are perfect for families and couples alike.
The Clarence is well known as a fishing hotspot.
Whether you're fishing off the river banks, in a kayak or a boat you're sure to have fun catching anything from bream and flathead to jewfish and the rock blackfish which are caught through the winter months using the local green or black weed.
The river is also fantastic if you're keen on kayaking.
There are plenty of great estuaries and channels just waiting to be explored....and BIG4 Saltwater is the perfect launching point.

There are also some local businesses who provide different ways for you to explore the river.
You can hire a boat or book yourself onto a guided kayak tour. There is also a company offering you the chance to get out onto the river in a small pedal boat which can carry 2 adults and 2 children.
Yuraygir National Park
If you're more interested in getting out for a walk through some bushland, the Clarence Valley has you covered there as well.
Just to the south of Yamba you'll find the top end of the Yuraygir National Park which runs down along the coast towards Coffs Harbour. It's famous for being the longest stretch of undeveloped coastline anywhere in NSW.
If you're keen on hiking coastal trails, there are multiple options in Yuraygir, many of which begin (or end) at Angourie.
The main trail is the Yuraygir Coastal Walk which starts at Angourie and finishes up at Red Rock, around 40km north of Coffs. This is a Grade 4, 65km trail that takes 4 - 5 days for you to complete.
You can also do day hikes on smaller sections of the trail and organise to be dropped off and picked up and the start and end of the day.
When To Visit - For The Water Lovers
If the water is the big attraction for you, then the warmer months of the year are definitely when you want to come across and visit the area.
When To Visit - For The Bush Walkers
If you're thinking of tackling some or all of the Yuraygir Coastal Walk, each season offers you something slightly different.
So if you're looking for a holiday with an outdoorsy flavour, heading to Yamba is definitely an option worth considering.
